Orbit machining mode ON
Orbit Machining refers to a special technique of chip removal by revolving a turning tool on an orbit of circular interpolation in an XY-plane (perpendicular to the virtual Z-axis), while synchro- nously rotating the tool on its axis by the milling spindle’s angular position control, so that the turning tool’s nose (cutting edge) may be kept (at the cutting point) normal to, or perpendicular to the tangent to, the circular path (surface to be machined). Thus the orbit machining function enables a quasi-turning operation to be achieved even on a machining center without turning functions as well as on an eccentric part of the workpiece. Commands relevant to the orbit machining are as follows. Arguments X and Y (“X0” and/or “Y0”) can be omitted if the workpiece coordinate 1. Always give a command of G148 with the tool being set at a position in the ZX-plane that includes the center of orbital motion; otherwise an alarm will be caused (968 CANNOT USE 2. […]
G148 is one-shot (group 00) — it is valid only in the block where it is entered.
Commands relevant to the orbit machining are as follows.
- G148 (Xx Yy) : Orbit machining mode ON
- G149 : Orbit machining mode OFF
- M763 : Start of normal orbital motion
- M764 : Start of reverse orbital motion
- M765 : Stop of orbital motion
- x, y: Center of orbital motion (to be specified with workpiece coordinates X and Y)
- Arguments X and Y (“X0” and/or “Y0”) can be omitted if the workpiece coordinate
- system need not be translated at all.
