Exact stop mode

Machine-specific. This G-code reference is specific to the Mazak INTEGREX e-670H / e-670H-S with the MAZATROL SmoothX control (EIA/ISO programming manual H747PB0030E). G-code availability depends on fitted options, and groups and behaviour differ between Mazak models and control generations — verify against the manual for your own machine before programming with any code.
What it does

Unlike exact-stop check command G09 which performs an in-position status check on that block only, command G61 functions as a modal command. That is, this command acts on all its succeeding cutting commands (G01, G02, and G03) so that deceleration occurs at the end of each block, followed by an in-position status check. The mode of G61 is cleared by geometry compensation mode (G61.1), automatic corner override mode (G62), tapping mode (G63), or cutting mode (G64). Automatic corner override refers to a function for decreasing the rate of feed automatically at corners on the tool path so as to reduce the tool load. The function contributes toward enhancing the surface quality in inner-corner cutting, or automatic inner-corner rounding (,R), in the mode of tool radius compensation.  “Inner corner” denotes an inside corner made of linear or circular segments.  “Automatic corner rounding (,R)” denotes a corner which is made of linear segments only and to be rounded with a radius specified using a special address ,R. G61 is modal (group 13) — it stays in effect until another code of the same group replaces it.
